Ghost Stories
I photographed the images for Ghost Stories at the Lyric Hammersmith.
Unusually no production photographs were taken of Ghost Stories. Normally a theatre likes to have photos of the entire performance, so I go along to a dress rehearsal and photograph the whole production. The theatre then chooses a large variety of images which are sent out to the press, put up outside the theatre and generally used to promote the show. In this case the company wanted to keep the plot of the show secret - to heighten the tension for the audience. So I was asked by the Lyric to come along to the Press Call, which is when they run a couple of scenes, and ask press photographers to come along and take pictures. It is quite different to taking production photos in that you are allowed to get up onto the stage and all the photographers are vying for the same position. Obviously you take far fewer images at a press call, but they have been used extensively in the press and my photos have been in The Independent, The Financial Times and Time Out, to name but a few.
David Cardy starring as Tony Matthews in Ghost Stories. Ghost Stories has had some brilliant reviews and has been a big word-of-mouth hit with audiences, so much so that the run has been extended until the 17th April.
Before the show started I was asked to photograph the writers and co-directors Andy Nyman and Jeremy Dyson, for promotional use. I was also asked to take headshots of the cast. Please click on the thumbnails below to see a larger image.
The headshots were to be used for the programme, so the actors behaved more in character than they would for normal portraits. If you are interested in seeing more of my actors portraits please visit the Headshots gallery section of my website.
Update: The New York Times used one of my photos from Ghost Stories to illustrate their article about scary plays.
