Donmar Trilogy Portraits
In 2012 I started working on the all-female Julius Caesar at the Donmar Warehouse in conjunction with Clean Break, directed by Phyllida Lloyd. It was a groundbreaking production, set in a women's prison, with all the actors played prisoners playing characters in a production of Julius Caesar. Two years later I was asked back to shoot the all-female Henry IV with many of the same actors and creative team. Last year Phyllida Lloyd completed the Trilogy with The Tempest and put all three plays in rep at the temporary theatre the Donmar Kings Cross. To mark the Trilogy I was asked to photograph a portrait of each actor playing her prison character.
Here are the images in situ at the temporary theatre in Kings Cross. The portraits were then taken to New York for the transfer to St Ann's Warehouse.
